Katie Swearingen is the Director of Organizational Development in the Office of Human Resources at UAMS. She holds an MA in Health Communication and a BA in Speech Communication, both from UALR. She has six years of experience in organizational development in the healthcare industry. She has over six years of experience in higher education coordinating academic internships for students. She has conducted training in generational diversity and inclusion in the workplace, interviewing and hiring, effective onboarding, employee engagement, service excellence and recovery, creativity, and conducting performance evaluations.

Sharniece Hughes joined UAMS in June 2012 as an Administrative Analyst. Sharniece assists the team with coordinating and creating schedules in training tracker, assisting with trainings, managing the budget for the department and leadership institute, and assisting with special projects.

Rhonda Partney-Wakelyn joined UAMS in March 2013 as the Senior Consultant of Online Training. She specializes in the design and development of online training programs, tutorials, and websites. Rhonda holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Arkansas State University. She also holds a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Learning System’s Technology from UALR. Rhonda plans to complete her education with a Doctorate in Educational Design and Development from UA. She is a former corporate trainer and has provided trainings for management and staff for Oracle database management, web-maintenance, and online employee human resource training.
Senior HR Consultant for Training
Laura Luce joined UAMS OHR in October 2013. She holds a Masters of Intercultural and International Management from the SIT Graduate Institute in VT. She has over 20 years of training, organizational development, facilitation and instructional design experience in higher education, non-profits, and outdoor education. Additionally, she worked internationally as a Peace Corps Volunteer in two countries; then went on to design, implement, and evaluate pre-service training for PCVs in Honduras and Fiji. She has conducted training on topics as diverse as HIV/AIDS prevention, sustainable development, cultural diversity, leadership, youth development, employee performance management, conflict transformation, team building using fantasy based problem solving, and train-the-trainer. Currently, Laura teaches Leading Change and Emotional Intelligence, among others.
Senior HR Consultant – Training Specialist II
Michael Yang joined UAMS’ Organizational Development Team in December 2013. He holds a BA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) in International Studies and a minor in Spanish. In addition, he completed 36 credit hours of graduate coursework in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program at UALR. He has eighteen years of experience in higher education where he worked with students on professional development. He will conduct trainings on Professionalism, Office Etiquette and Behavioral Interviewing Skills for HR Managers, among others. Michael will also assist with the UAMS Leadership Institute, HR Informational Series for Leaders, and Brilliant Life Workshop Series.
SR HR Consultant-Training Specialist II
Kevin Huneycutt joined UAMS’ Organizational Development team in May 2014. He holds a BA in Speech Communication and an MA in Applied Communication Studies both from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. After completing his master’s degree in communication, he taught Speech Communication 1300 at UALR for three and a half years. Many of his former students are now employees of UAMS. In the 2013-14 academic school years he served as the “soft skills” instructor for UALR’s Information Technology minor program. Kevin has also taught Oral Communication online for East Arkansas Community College. His main areas of interest are communication and skill based trainings. Some of the trainings he will conduct include Team Foundations, Developing Others, Managing Conflict and more. Kevin will also begin hosting the new OD “Lunch and Learn Series” begining in August 2014.
