Paid Parental Leave

The University of Arkansas System adopted a paid parental leave policy that UAMS is implementing effective Sept. 1, 2024. This means, the event (birth or placement) must occur on or after Sept. 1, 2024.

Who is Eligible?

The University of Arkansas System Board policy 420.2 states that eligible workers:

  • have been employed by UAMS or a campus, unit, or division of the University of Arkansas System for a minimum of 24 continuous months in a benefit-eligible position (a regular position with an FTE of 50% or more) on the child’s date of birth / placement date.
  • have been approved for FMLA leave for a period encompassing the date of birth or placement of the child
  • are the birth parent, legal spouse of the birth parent, an adoptive parent, or a foster parent

Note: UAMS Residents/Fellows must follow the UAMS College of Medicine GMEC policy 2.200 Leave for Residents and Fellows, excluding them from this paid parental leave benefit.
