Performance Management

What is Performance Management?

Performance management is an ongoing process in which managers and employees communicate regularly to establish expectations, set and monitor goals, provide feedback, address performance, and support professional development. Rather than focusing solely on an annual performance review, performance management creates a continuous cycle of communication, coaching, recognition, and accountability that begins during onboarding and continues throughout the employee’s career.

Effective performance management helps employees understand what is expected of them, receive timely and meaningful feedback, identify opportunities for growth, and perform at their highest potential. It also promotes employee engagement, inclusion, appreciation of a diverse workforce, and alignment with organizational goals.

A successful performance management process requires a strong performance culture—one in which ongoing communication, accountability, recognition, development, and support are embedded in the way managers lead and employees contribute.
