During the initial 90-day period, managers are encouraged to provide employees with the support, guidance, feedback, and resources needed to successfully perform their jobs and meet expectations. The 90-Day Evaluation is designed to assess the performance and progress of employees during their initial period of employment. A 90-Day Evaluation is required for new hires, rehires, and external transfers. External transfers are employees transferring within the University of Arkansas System from another institution or campus but new to UAMS.
The 90-Day Evaluation is completed electronically in Workday. The evaluation template will automatically launch to the employee’s manager for completion. The manager will assess the employee’s performance based on the job responsibilities and expectations of the position. Upon completion, the task will route to the employee for acknowledgement.
A completed copy of the 90-Day Evaluation will remain available to both the employee and manager in the employee’s HRIS personnel file.
Exclusions from this evaluation period include internal transfers within UAMS, tenured faculty, temporary employees, PRN, Extra Help, and Contingent Workers.
Note: The 90-Day Evaluation template will not populate in Workday before the employee’s 45th day of employment and must be completed by the employee’s 90th day of employment. If the evaluation does not automatically trigger in Workday, the manager or Office of Human Resources (OHR) may initiate the task manually.

Documenting Performance and Conduct
Any concerns related to substandard performance, misconduct, or other workplace concerns should be addressed promptly and thoroughly documented. Managers are encouraged to use the Counseling Session Form to document discussions, expectations, areas of concern, and the support provided to the employee.
The Counseling Session Form is a proactive tool designed to assist employees in improving performance and/or conduct. Counseling should be conducted in a fair, consistent, and collaborative manner, with a focus on clearly communicating expectations and providing the employee an opportunity to improve.
Important: Employees should not receive formal disciplinary action during their initial 90-day period. However, employees are not exempt from termination during this period when circumstances warrant such action.
Managers should consult with their HR Business Partner before taking action related to significant performance or conduct concerns to ensure appropriate guidance and consistency with applicable policies and procedures.
